A slightly different one-day meeting will take the place of the UKISCRS Annual Congress this year.
All being well, the meeting will be held on Saturday 14 November at the Birmingham Park Regis Hotel.
UKISCRS Society Manager Gill Wood said: “I am truly excited and proud to be hosting UKISCRS at the Birmingham Park Regis Hotel this year, in what has been the most unusual year our generations have ever seen!”
The independently owned hotel boasts a spectacular Sky Gallery & Loft, with panoramic windows on the 16th floor, which will host the exhibition and catering. The lecture theatre has a one-way system in place and will be socially distanced. The lectures will also be aired to the exhibitors via a digital link to help keep them up to speed on current topical education from the faculty.
Gill continued: “We want to instil trust in all our colleagues, and safety is our number 1 concern, however, we want to run the UKISCRS meeting – potentially the first in ophthalmology since lockdown – with a huge welcome and positivity. Delegates will be handed a delegate pack with a difference to include an optional mask, hand-sanitiser and note-pad and pen. The venue and myself are accredited ’Safer Events’ planners and will follow all guidelines to the nth degree. However, we also want it to feel friendly and inclusive.”
To ensure a robust technical set-up, the AV will be provided by Oxford Audio Visual, who have worked with well-known stars such as Joanna Lumley and facilitated remote meetings with The Pentagon during lockdown. James and his team will connect those faculty members who will be presenting from home to the lecture theatre audience for live presentation and Q&A.
The plan for the day is as follows:
Programme 9am - 5.45pm
Presidential hand-over 5.45-6pm from Prof Philip Bloom to Prof Sathish Srinivasan.
