The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) has launched its new annual plan, which will guide its work over the coming year on behalf of members.

The plan, which can be found at www.abdo.org.uk, involves a wide range of activities to enable ABDO to support and represent members, promote awareness of their roles, enable their professional development and advance the profession as a whole.

ABDO’s priorities in this anniversary year are to:

  1. show the value of DOs and CLOs
  2. enable members to develop their roles
  3. improve member services and support.

In its annual plan, ABDO has outlined a comprehensive programme of work across its key priority areas. This includes:

  • promoting the findings of our pay and reward survey, which will provide a comprehensive benchmark for member salaries and benefits and supporting members in gaining improved recognition and advancing their careers
  • showcasing the vital roles played by our members as part of celebrating 100 years of the profession, shining a spotlight on the impact they make every day in practice and across the sector
  • delivering our Professional Certificate in Paediatric Eyecare, which covers the latest developments in children’s eyecare, including myopia management and supports evidence based practice

During the year, we will also be developing a new strategic plan that will guide our work on behalf of members for the three year period starting in January 2027.

ABDO president Kevin Gutsell says, “As we commemorate the centenary of our profession, we will use this milestone to further enhance awareness and understanding – within the sector, across allied medical disciplines and among patients – of the exceptional expertise and care our members provide each day.”
