This was a prospective observation cohort study to evaluate the effect of atropine on axial length (AL), choroidal thickness and choroidal stromal volume (CSV) using swept-source OCT angiography (OCTA). The study included 26 subjects of which 25 had sufficient quality scans for analysis. Mean choroidal thickness, CSV and AL pre-atropine were 288.77 ±65.63um, 10.64 ±1.31mm3 and 25.34 ±1.23mm respectively. All had significant changes. Limitations of this study were not being controlled for influence of lifestyle changes, short-term effects only and lack of compliance information. The authors conclude 1 month of daily 0.1% atropine results in short-term reduction in axial length with concurrent increase in choroidal thickness and CSV suggesting direct relationship is plausible between these parameters. Long-term implications remain to be evaluated.
