This study considered possible associated patient anatomic or physiologic factors for initial surgical failure of nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO). This was a retrospective study analysing risk factors for patients with successful initial surgery in comparison to patients requiring multiple surgeries. The study included 178 patients. Significant findings were presence of trisomy 21, prior diagnosis of allergic rhinitis / seasonal allergies, history of upper respiratory tract infection within one month, prior diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea and history of multiple myringotomy procedures.
