This is a posthoc study of the PIVOT randomised trial over a 12 month period, to evaluate the functional outcomes of the incidence of PSF in PnR versus PPV following RRD surgery. One hundred and fifty-eight patients were recruited and had gradable spectral domain OCT (SD-OCT). The incidence of PSFF following PnR was 16% and 10.4% following PPV. No significant difference was found for median ETDRS score with or without PSFF at six or 12-months visits. At three months, it was 71 and 78 respectively between the two groups. There was no significance of either horizontal or vertical metamorphopsia scores between the with or without PPSF groups. The authors concluded that the presence of PSFF at one and two months postoperatively was associated with worse ETDRS letter score at three months but not at one year. No significant difference was found in the incidence of PSFF between PnR and PPV for RRD surgery.
