This is a review of the current literature and strategies for myopia control. It discusses the epidemiology of myopia, the classification of myopia and the current treatment strategies. It presents data from landmark papers while discussing treatment strategies which they break down into optical interventions, pharmacological therapies, behaviour and environmental interventions, emerging therapy, combination therapy and surgical options. They highlight the areas of research which need to be addressed including low follow-up period, lack of consensus on when to initiate or how to stop treatment, issues regarding limited understanding of how myopia may affect different races and lack of a global strategy for a likely emerging public health issue.
