Multicentre PCO rates in different brands of monofocal intraocular lenses
This was a longitudinal, retrospective cohort study featuring 47,754 (three years) and 20,763 (five years) eyes with age-related (≥65 year) cataract surgeries between 2010-2013 across seven UK ophthalmology clinics. The three- and five-year incidence of posterior capsular opacification (PCO) and...ZEISS Biometry Mastery Course (6 Feb 24)
6 February 2024
This is a one-day course which will be running on Tuesday 6 & Wednesday 7 February - attendees have the choice of either date on a first-come-first-served basis.
The 'Biometry Mastery Course' is exclusively tailored for pre-assessment nurses in cataract and refractive lens exchange surgery, as well as dedicated Ophthalmic professionals. With a comprehensive curriculum encompassing eye anatomy, refraction, cataract surgery, biometry principles, best practices, formulas and IOL constants, participants will delve into the heart of biometry. Our practical workshops, featuring the IOLMaster 700, equip attendees with the key knowledge, skills and understanding to perform accurate and precise biometry and how they relate to the patient pathway.
RCOphth (The Royal College of Ophthalmologists) Cataract Surgery Complications
31 October 2024
This course will focus on the practical management of posterior capsule rupture and zonular dialysis. This will be a “hands on” course with the emphasis on practicing anterior vitrectomy techniques, the use of capsular tension rings, capsule hooks and sulcus IOL implantation. There will also be interactive small group teaching on how to prevent surgical complications during phacoemulsification surgery. The course is aimed at ST5-ST7 trainees, Fellows and Consultants.
Results after 1.4mm biaxial cataract surgery and implantation of a new aspheric intraocular lens
The aim of this study was to analyse the clinical outcome and higher-order aberrations (HOAs) after 1.4mm biaxial micro incision cataract surgery (B-MICS) and implantation of a new aspheric intraocular lens (IOL). A total of 157 eyes of 106 patients...Sutureless 27-gauge needle intrascleral intraocular lens implantation

EYE - General
The authors report on a prospective, non-comparative, interventional case series of patients undergoing sutureless intrascleral fixation of a posterior chamber three piece intraocular lens (IOL) using a 27-gauge needle for docking. Sutureless techniques have the advantage of not having complex...
Patient satisfaction after refractive lens exchange with an EDOF lens
The aim of this study was to identify independent factors associated with postoperative satisfaction after refractive lens exchange with an extended depth of focus intraocular lens (EDOF IOL). Patients who underwent a refractive lens exchange with bilateral implantation of the...Closed-chamber haptic re-externalisation for posteriorly displaced sclerotomy and inadequate haptic tuck in glued posterior chamber intraocular lenses
This technique (online video http://jcrsjournal.org) emphasises the importance of both symmetrical and sufficient anterior placement of sclerotomies to externalise an adequate length of the haptics, which in turn provides good centration and stability of the intra-ocular lens (IOL). The authors...Clinical evaluation of a new pupil independent diffractive MIOL lens with a ±2.75D near addition

This is a clinical outcome assessment after cataract surgery with implantation of multifocal intraocular lens implant IOL with a lower near addition (+2.75D) of 143 eyes of 85 patients aged between 40 to 83 years of age. The type of...
Is lens constant optimisation for IOLMaster indispensable in order to achieve a good refractive outcome?
A study of refractive outcomes following cataract surgery was carried out with the aim of comparing the postoperative refractive outcomes against Royal College of Ophthalmologists standards and to determine the extent of association between accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) power...International Ophthalmology Conference 4th Edition
