Almost three quarters (74%) of eyecare professionals have found it challenging to implement the new practice protocols and communicate the changes to patients, revealed a recent poll by Optos, specialists in the design and manufacturing of advanced imaging technology.

The survey was carried out as part of the online event “Get Back to Business: Move Your Practice Forward,” where eye experts gave their views on the industry and discussed best practice in this new working environment.

The research also revealed that almost three quarters (72%) of optometrists and ophthalmologists found it challenging to communicate changes to regular eye examinations to their patients.

Encouragingly, more than three quarters of the professionals found that having specialist equipment, including Optos’ ultra-widefield technology (UWFTM), was beneficial in supporting the measures.

Gareth Steer, Vice President of Sales, Optos Europe, said: “It’s critical that we come together to support practices on the frontline as they get back on their feet, so that they can continue to provide the best possible eyecare for patients.

“For Optos, this includes sharing guidance with our customers on the most effective methods of disinfecting and cleaning devices and providing regular updates on best practice to socially distance during examinations.”
