Medicolegal - you're the judge
Monday 23rd May
11:00am
Lomond

Join our Medicolegal Editor, Amar Alwitry, for his session on Monday at 11am in the Lomond Room. Joining him will be two experienced speakers talking about how to protect yourself from litigation and consent issues in ophthalmology. Finishing off he will be running an interactive session where you will be asked to vote on cases based on real litigation. Some of the findings from our own Practice Variance Surveys will be presented. You will get the chance to be the judge and vote. Guilty or innocent? You decide. Find more information here.

PREVIEW:

For the first time since 2019, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists are looking forward to welcoming delegates to an in-person Annual Congress at the end of this month, taking place at the beautiful Scottish Event campus, Glasgow. Eye News will be uploading coverage, interviews, photos and videos of the event on our website and across social media. Keep an eye out for updates, get involved by following us on social media and share your excitement.

Hear from Eye News co-editor Professor Baljean Dhillon as he looks ahead to the Congress:

All sessions at the RCOphth are available live and in-person and will also be live streamed simultaneously to virtual delegates. All delegates, whether in-person or remote will be able to ask questions and take part in polls and discussions. Following the success of the Virtual 2021 Congress, all content will be available on demand for three months after the meeting. This will enable delegates to catch up on parallel sessions they may have missed or to hear a talk again. Over the four days of the conference there will be over 86 hours of fascinating ophthalmic content covering every subspecialty and featuring new innovations, research and case studies to learn from.

Session chairs are very excited to be coming back to Glasgow and there are a broad range of topics being explored, including the collaborative orbit, corneal infections, neuro-ophthalmology “nightmares”, ocular ultrasound, dry eye disease, medical retina, uveitis, paediatric ophthalmology, cataract surgery and much more. The programme also features dedicated sessions for SAS doctors and trainees and the return of in-person ‘Training the trainers’. Full details of the programme can be found on the website here.

The Eye News team will be at Stand 24 for the duration of the event. We look forward to chatting to delegates, speakers and industry figures. We will also be running a series of events from the stand, including:

A book giveaway competition, which you can enter via social media.

Selling beautiful artworks to raise money for Fight for Sight charity, created by artist Steve Thomson

And a running series of 60 second video interviews, including a chat with RCOphth President, Professor Bernie Chang.

Eye News will be providing coverage of the highlights of each day from Monday 23 - Thursday 26 May. If you have a story you would like to tell, a question you would like to ask, or just want to come and say hello, get in touch - we'll see you there!
