Two fundraisers with visual impairment took on an 18-mile sponsored walk in tartan on Sunday, 4 June.

The Kiltwalk is an annual multi-city event allowing anyone to raise funds for the charities and causes they care about. Shona Black (58) and Daryl Stewart (21) embarked on the Aberdeen Kiltwalk to raise funds for national sight loss charity RNIB Scotland. It's a cause that's important to them and over 180,000 other people who have sight loss in Scotland, as well as their families and friends.

The pair are up for a challenge, however, as they not only participated in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, but will continue to join all four events taking place across the year, in Glasgow, Dundee, and Edinburgh.

Shona, who volunteers with RNIB Scotland, has been severely sight impaired (blind) for most of her adult life. “I am a keen walker and I love the outdoors,” she said. “Taking on this challenge will be a lot of fun and it brings my walking to the next level!”

Daryl is partially sighted and has volunteered with RNIB Scotland for many years. He is also a keen football fan and travels all over the country to follow his beloved team. “I can’t wait to join Shona on this epic challenge,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to going to Aberdeen!”

Shona added: “I can’t wait to hear all about Daryl’s football trips during our walks, if I can stay awake!”

All funds raised by Shona and Daryl went to RNIB, who offer practical and emotional support to blind and partially sighted people, their families and carers.

The pair are due to take on 20 miles in Dundee on 20 August, before finishing with a 14-mile grand finale in Edinburgh on 17 September.
