Edinburgh’s VCHP clinic is looking for volunteers to keep the Monday morning drop-in sessions operating every week.
Ashley Low, FBDO, the Clinic Manager explained: “We are keen to hear from optometrists, dispensing opticians and assistants to help. We have a superbly equipped testing set-up and separate dispensing room, all with brand new kit. Being within the Crisis Centre on Canongate, EH8 really helps with the flow of clients, and we’d love to hear from anyone who could volunteer just once a month. Being within the Crisis building provides a very supportive and safe working environment.
“Those who have already used our service are so very appreciative. Glazing is generously provided by Optimum Rx, with no restrictions on what we can order. We had one patient who was a -10.00D and thanks to Optimum Rx we were able to supply her with 1.74 high index lenses which look fantastic.”

VCHP is also looking for volunteers at other clinics, with no minimum requirement of time commitment. There is an open-door policy for anyone in optics to call by at any of the clinics and see how they can help with professional services, driving awareness in the local community, or with fundraising.
