Clinical services provider 18 Week Support reacts to government’s Elective Recovery Taskforce plan

11 August 2023 | NHS, Backlog, Elective Recovery Taskforce

18 Week Support is an independent service provider offering high quality clinical support services to NHS Trusts throughout the UK.

Claire Dubowski, CEO of clinical services provider 18 Week Support, said: “We welcome the recommendations of the government’s Elective Recovery Taskforce implementation plan and we’re pleased that this document acknowledges the enormous potential that the independent sector can play in combating the elective recovery backlog.

“With national figures showing more than seven million people waiting for NHS treatment, the independent sector can play a crucial role in treating patients who are waiting far too long for vital procedures. If patients are to get the treatment they deserve instead of waiting unnecessarily then insourcing - bringing in experienced and fully trained clinical teams into existing NHS facilities that are currently being under-used and that have spare capacity such as at weekends – is crucial for reducing waiting times so that patients are treated quickly and efficiently in an NHS environment that they already know.

Claire Dubowski, CEO of 18 Week Support

“The government needs to ensure that insourcing plays a key role in eliminating the elective recovery backlog and must provide clear guidance for NHS trusts on how they can best utilise insourcing opportunities from approved independent providers.

“We look forward to working with colleagues in NHSE, DHSC and NHS Trusts across the country as the government takes forward the recommendations of this important plan."
