CHEC launches new CPD programme for 2025

18 February 2025 | CPD, training, professional development, education, trainees, ISP, independent, industry

CHEC, a community healthcare provider delivering specialist ophthalmology services in partnership with the NHS, has launched a new CPD programme to help optometrists to enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and improve patient care.

The comprehensive programme of accredited CPD events has been ratified by the General Optical Council and is designed to help professionals to keep abreast of the latest advancements and research findings in the field to continue to meet their professional requirements.

CHEC collaborates with Local Optical Committees across the country to ensure its CPD programme is evolving to meet the needs of the optometry and ophthalmology community. In 2024, CHEC hosted 27 CPD events across the country, awarding a total of 5,172 CPD points, demonstrating its substantial investment in providing high-quality educational opportunities for the sector.

CHEC has planned an initial 13 CPD events between now and the summer, including a mixture of online and in-person sessions. The list includes CHEC’s first-ever Super CPD event, on 11th May, which will offer attendees the opportunity to earn a substantial number of CPD points in just one day, boosting their professional development more effectively and efficiently.

Mahmoud Rabie, Clinical Director for Ophthalmology at CHEC, said: “At CHEC, we're dedicated to partnering with community optometrists to uphold the highest standards of patient care. A key part of this commitment is sharing our ophthalmic knowledge and expertise through CPD training.

“CPDs are crucial for healthcare professionals to stay at the forefront of their field, and we aim for our events to provide valuable learning experiences that are both informative and engaging.

"My colleagues and I are thrilled to bring CPD learning back to industry professionals again in 2025, and we’re excited to share our expertise and reconnect with the optometry and ophthalmology community, sharing the foundations for clinical excellence, outstanding patient care, and career advancement.”
