Berneck, 4th September 2025 – Oertli Instrumente AG presented its surgical platform, the OS 4 UpTM, to the attendees of the Euretina and ESCRS congresses. The platform introduces forward-thinking solutions for vitreoretinal and cataract surgery and is complemented by new instruments, including the Caliburn Trocar System and the Continuous Flow Cutter.

According to Oertli, every detail of the new platform and instruments has been designed so that surgeons and OR staff can enjoy surgery. The OS 4 Up, along with the new instruments and features, bring physics and fluidics into harmony – each one powerful on its own, and unleashed in its full potential when combined.

Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, the OS 4 Up introduces a suite of innovation, including the dynamic infusion concept that responds in real time to surgical dynamics. Operating with dynamic infusion enables surgeons to reduce IOP settings in anterior or posterior surgery closer to near-physiologic eye level. With PACS (Phaco Assisted Cataract Surgery), energy delivery is smooth and consistent – similar to a cruise control – ensuring controlled phacoemulsification independent of cataract grade.

The new Caliburn Trocar System enables controlled and continuous penetration force, allowing smooth and effortless insertion into the sclera. Its patented design supports a seamless transition from knife to bevelled cannula, aiding precise trocar placement. The new Continuous Flow Cutter provides 60% more aspiration in 23G*, supporting a smooth surgical flow, enabling an efficient pace from start to finish.

Thomas Bosshard, Co-CEO states: “Surgeons and OR teams dedicate thousands of hours in the operating theater preserving eyesight. With the OS 4 Up, complemented by our innovative instruments, we enable them to enjoy their surgery - working with confidence, efficiency and joy, while delivering the best outcomes for patients.”
