Premium recyclable ophthalmic instrument company HASA OPTIX announces its certification as a B Corporation (B Corp) company. In a press release, the Brussels-based scale-up confirmed its score of 109.7 points on the B Impact Assessment, in which nonprofit B Lab assesses key impact areas such as governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
HASA OPTIX, partially owned by Rayner, addresses its entire chain of operations through this certification by pursuing socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy and water use, waste disposal, and corporate transparency. This achievement solidifies HASA OPTIX’s philosophy of purpose beyond profit.
Eric T’Scharner, CEO of HASA OPTIX, states: “We believe that offering sustainable solutions gives us a meaningful strategy. We were already unique on the market with our recyclable instrument sets − the B Corp certification will enhance that quality by allowing us to help them align their own environmental goals and commitment to sustainable practices.”
Earlier this year, HASA OPTIX was also shortlisted as one of Belgium’s Most Sustainable Companies by the Trends Impact Awards, a local Belgian award, due to its innovative circular instrument recycling scheme. The project involves recycling the stainless steel the instruments are made of, and reusing them to make other, non-medical, products.
HASA OPTIX is now part of a community of 8,750 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps in Benelux, including brands such as Rituals, TooGoodtoGo, and Tony Chocolonely.
Tessa van Soest, Director of B Lab Benelux, states: “Being able to welcome HASA OPTIX to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit”.
