Glaukos had a busy and successful presence at the 100% Optical conference held at London’s ExCeL Centre from 28 February to 2 March, where there was strong interest in the recent UKEGS consensus recommending that all glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery should be offered minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and informed about its potential benefits.

As part of the programme, Glaukos sponsored the main stage lecture on Sunday lunchtime, which focused on the optometric referral of glaucoma patients at the time of cataract surgery.

Conor Lavery (L) - National Sales Manager, Rachel Price (R) – Territory Manager.

The session was delivered by ophthalmologist Mr Amun Sachdev (Hereford) and Darren Smith, optometrist and Chair of the Hereford Local Optical Committee. Their presentation emphasised the importance of considering glaucoma when referring patients for cataract surgery and highlighted why earlier surgical intervention can play a key role in improving glaucoma management.

The speakers also provided insight into the local referral pathway developed in the region, designed to ensure that patients referred for cataract surgery are appropriately assessed for glaucoma and that eligible patients are not missed for a combined cataract and MIGS procedure.
