Electronic medical records of visual fields have potential to form a repository of data on patient encounters that can be directly used in research. We have examined nearly a million visual field records collected over more than decade in different glaucoma clinics in England. Using data analytics on this large-scale data tells us something about the speed of vision loss in clinics and the frequency with which patients are examined.
Linking these data sets to health economic models and other publicly available big data sets suggests ways by which money and vision could be saved.
