This highly rated course is unique in providing research training bespoke to ophthalmology. It includes a breadth of topics relevant to ophthalmologists and other ophthalmic clinicians any career stage seeking to get started in research and seeking to improve how they apply research evidence to their practice. Expert speakers cover: formulating the research question, common pitfalls in research, principles of study design and ophthalmic statistics, making a research ethics application, securing research funding, patient and public involvement in research and evidence appraisal skills. This course combines short interactive lectures with opportunities for informal discussion with the teaching faculty and other attendees. Target audience: Ophthalmologists or other ophthalmic professionals at any career stage with limited prior research experience who would like an introduction to doing, appraising, and applying research to improve clinical practice. The course would be particularly suitable for Ophthalmic Trainees to support their learning and outputs in all levels of the Research and Scholarship domain of the OST curriculum. The course is also particularly suitable for all ophthalmologists wishing to become research active in keeping with GMC requirements.
