Welcome to the 14th episode of Beyond 2020, the video series from Andean Medical Mission | Bolivian Medical Charity that looks at strategies to eliminate avoidable blindness in countries with developing eyecare services and shares ideas and solutions to common difficulties in working abroad.
Providing cataract surgery in rural and remote settings brings unique challenges — especially when managing postoperative complications. In this episode of Beyond 2020 with the Andean Medical Mission, we walk through the most common and the most important complications you should expect after cataract surgery, including endophthalmitis, TASS, cystoid macular oedema, retinal detachment and more. We focus on when these problems usually appear, how often they occur, and what frontline clinicians in low-resource environments can realistically do to stabilise patients and protect vision. This video is designed for doctors, nurses and eyecare workers delivering outreach ophthalmology services around the world.
