Welcome to the 13th episode of Beyond 2020, the video series from Andean Medical Mission | Bolivian Medical Charity that looks at strategies to eliminate avoidable blindness in countries with developing eyecare services and shares ideas and solutions to common difficulties in working abroad.

This video looks at the many support roles that can be applied for as part of the global effort to eliminate avoidable blindness. Many organisations such as the Andean Medical Mission take teams of surgeons into remote towns and villages all across the world and perform cataract surgery and other eye surgeries to restore sight in countries with developing ophthalmology services. This is incredibly rewarding work and requires volunteers to support the surgeons in various ways. You don't have to be a surgeon to be part of the team and there are many roles that are either based in your home country or would allow you to travel with the surgical team. This video explores some of the roles that might interest you as a volunteer. Beyond 2020 is s series of videos looking at blindness prevention based on the experiences and leaning from 15 years of the Andean Medical Missions work in Northern Bolivia.
