The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is calling on everyone across the optical professions and industry to save 9 October 2023 for the third SEE Summit on the Environment.

This event which is supported across the eyecare community will bring together progress on Social, Ethical and Environmental (SEE) issues. We have an exciting keynote speaker lined up who we will be announcing soon.

Practice owners, eyecare professionals and manufacturers are all invited to this event to promote environmental sustainability in the UK optical sector and contribute to the government’s goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The event will take place in the run-up to the UN Climate Change Conference 2023 (UNFCCC COP 28) in November and will highlight the importance of environmental sustainability and inspire change by sharing good practice case studies and providing practical advice.

ABDO president Daryl Newsome says: "I cannot believe we are about to host our third SEE summit. It’s incredible how far we have come although as with all learning, the more progress we make the more we realise how much further we need to go. As the environmental concerns of our industry build, we continue to hear about the incredible hard work our suppliers and colleagues are putting into this mutual effort. The variety of materials used in spectacle manufacturing these days is so extensive that to remain environmentally responsible is incredibly demanding.

"Becoming more sustainable is a job worth doing and it is great that we have so many parts of the industry coming together, collaborating and pushing this cause forwards and upwards."

If you would like to be involved in or support the event, or if you have environmental initiatives you would like to showcase in the run up to or at the event, please email achitty@abdo.org.uk.
