RNIB welcomes Kamiqua Lake as new Trustee

4 April 2023 | RNIB, Industry

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has announced the appointment of a new Trustee, Kamiqua Lake.

As CEO and founder of marketing communications consultancy, Coldr, and founder of the UK Black Comms Network, Kamiqua brings more than 7 years’ experience in marketing, digital, social media, and public relations to her new role.

Anna Tylor, Chair of Trustees at RNIB said: “We’re delighted to welcome Kamiqua Lake onto our Board of Trustees. Kamiqua has an exceptional marketing background which spans across a myriad of sectors and disciplines. Her passion for inclusion and community-led strategic communications fits perfectly with the RNIB’s mission to create a world without barriers for people with sight loss.

“Kamiqua is joining the charity at an exciting time in its history. RNIB has been evolving at record pace over the last few years. We’re trailblazing innovation in assistive technology, breaking down barriers in education and employment, and providing direct emotional, practical support and information to more people than ever before. Kamiqua will play a crucial role in driving our mission forward and we feel very fortunate to have her on board.”

Kamiqua’s career was founded on a passion for healthcare communications. After spending seven years working for leading companies including Johnson & Johnson, Roche, and Reckitt Benckiser, she moved to the food and drink industry, leading integrated communications for Aldi and Coca Cola before becoming Director of Communications at car rental company, Hertz. Established in 2020, Kamiqua and her team at Coldr lead on inclusive marketing communications for eBay UK, Lloyds Banking Group, and Electrolux.

Kamiqua Lake commented on her appointment as a Trustee for RNIB: “It’s an honour to join the team at RNIB. My career to date has revolved around a passion for inclusive communications, which feels like a perfect match with the charity’s mission and values. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to use my skills and experience in an environment where I can learn and grow, whilst being a critical friend within an organisation that champions an under-served, under-represented, and under-considered community.

“My aim is to collaborate and bring even more clarity and focus to the charity’s marketing and communications. I want to help build upon the renewed foundations the charity has worked hard to create and ensure we realise our ambitions.”

Kamiqua joins a board of nine trustees at RNIB – four of whom are blind or partially sighted. Learn more about RNIB’s governance structure here.
