Dr Giovanni Montesano, the Glaucoma UK Pitts Crick Fellow, has been awarded an ARVO Foundation Early Career Clinician-Scientist Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in vision research.

The award celebrates early career clinician-scientists whose research is shaping the future of eye care.It was presented by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), one of the leading organisations for vision research in the world.

Giovanni’s ambitious project seeks to develop ‘digital twins’ for glaucoma patients, bringing us one step closer to truly personalised medicine. For example, a digital twin could be used to help individual patients and their clinicians have a better understanding of the treatments most likely to achieve the best results.

His fellowship is funded thanks to the generosity of Glaucoma UK members and supporters, and the achievement is a powerful reminder of what our community makes possible.
