The three other prize winners have also now been notified.

Carly Stodart, a medical student from Fife, won the prize for the best Patient Pathway poster for her topic ‘Refining the oculoplastic referral pathway in NHS Fife’. For which she received £250 support towards attendance at an appropriate congress in 2021 or 2022 from sponsors Thea Pharmaceuticals Limited.

The prize for the best Imaging topic went to Akshay Narayan, FY2, NHS Grampian, for his poster ‘The role of anterior segment optical coherence tomography in glaucoma virtual clinics: how can it be used to refine referrals for primary angle closure?’. He won three high-quality OCT textbooks worth £258.00, including OCT Atlas, Glaucoma Imaging Atlas and Atlas of OCT from sponsors Heidelberg Engineering.

Eric Kristin Newcott, Ophthalmology Register, NHS Highland, and his co-authors Arkan Almamoori and Thorfinn Leslie, won the best Therapeutics prize for a poster entitled ‘Does a little light go a long way to treat glaucoma?’ They received a free place on any of the courses in the 2022 Haag-Streit Academy event calendar.

“The 2021 Autumn SOC has attracted an excellent selection of e-posters displaying the rich range of projects trainees are pursuing in clinical care, audit, imaging, and quality improvement,” commented SOC President Prof Baljean Dhillon.

“Clinical academic activity in ophthalmology is alive and kicking! The judges are tasked with selecting the SOC prize and category winners, they have the grateful thanks of SOC Council. Congratulations to everyone for submitting their high-quality work to the SOC.”

The next SOC meeting will be held on Friday 18 February 2022 in the Marriott Hotel, Glasgow.
