The College of Optometrists is once again opening its doors to visitors, as part of Open House London.

Anyone curious to see the inside of the College Headquarters, including the incredible British Optical Museum, can do so without needing to book on Sunday 10 September 2023.

The College’s historic building, in the heart of London’s West End, is home to the oldest collection of ophthalmic artefacts in the world. Dating back to 1901, it incorporates extraordinary advances in medical science and the history of eyewear design and fashion.

Its unparalleled collection of rare books, antique photographs and vintage vision aids – not to mention some gruesome models depicting ocular disease – provides an illustrated timeline of the evolution of optometry over the years.

The College and museum will be open to walk-in visitors from 12:00-17:00 on Sunday 10 September 2023. Entrance is free of charge.

Founded in 1992, the Open House London Festival typically sees around 250,000 people engage with London’s most compelling architecture, heritage and communities. Its parent charity, Open City, runs a year-round programme of educational activities.
