Thank you to all of those that came to Birmingham for our annual Congress last May. The 2023 Congress was the most successful ever in terms of numbers and feedback and we’re hoping to build on that for 2024 when the College travels to Belfast.

A new initiative for 2024 is the introduction of an ‘early bird’ rate, which sees price cuts across all delegates from 2019 but with a 50% discount on fees for members. Early bird registration will open on 16 January 2024.

The 2024 Congress will feature the usual excellent parallel programme, covering all sub specialities. For many of our session chairs, it is the first time they have organised a Congress session, so there will be lots of new and fresh content. Furthermore, following feedback, we’ve expanded the number of clinical sessions.

In addition, the programme will feature speakers from across the world, and so far we have sessions such as ‘Reducing cataract surgery backlogs in the Caribbean’ and a slot organised by the International Strabismus Association with speakers from Denmark, Spain, USA, Ecuador and Mexico, with more details to be announced.

New for 2024 will be a workshop strand, which will feature longer half-day sessions for a more in-depth experience. We’re also expanding the ‘Rapid Fire’, giving more opportunities to present and for delegates to hear about the latest research and innovations. Following the launch in 2023 of the college’s Associate Membership for eyecare professionals, one of the sub-specialty days at Congress 2024 will feature sessions that particularly apply to the wider ophthalmic community. As per previous years, most sessions will be available on demand for three months after the meeting.
