Ahead of World Sight Day 2024 on the 10th October, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) is putting children’s eye health at the centre of their Love Your Eyes campaign, with the Glasses of the Future competition.
World Sight Day is an annual awareness day, spotlighting preventable blindness and vision impairment. Devastating research into children’s eye health has shown us that:
- Globally, at least 450 million children have a sight condition that needs treatment
- 90 million children are living with some form of sight loss
- 40% of childhood blindness is preventable or treatable.
We are raising awareness of how finding the right glasses for a child can improve school grades and future earnings through the Glasses of the Future competition. We are asking the health sector to support children up to 12 years old to imagine and design the ‘Glasses of the Future’. Children have the chance to:
- Win up to $800 for their school
- See their glasses brought to life in 3D
- Take part in media interviews in conjunction with their school.
Your support in raising awareness would be invaluable and show how regular vision screenings can change a child’s life – boosting educational attainment and future prospects.
With that in mind, would you be interested in engaging children with the importance of caring for their eyes, and promote World Sight Day 2024 with the Glasses of the Future competition?
Later in the year, there will also be the opportunity to gain exclusive access to research that highlights the benefits of correcting refractive error for a child’s academic performance.
