The first virtual Scottish Ophthalmology Club (SOC) meeting will be held on Wednesday 30 September 2020, commencing at 5.30pm, an early evening event of education, enjoyment and enlightenment. The SOC has a long and rich history, surviving through more than a century of world events.

This year’s President Bal Dhillon explains the theme for the meeting: “In surviving the challenges and changes we all face at some point in our careers, our theme is both timely and relevant: ‘My first time ...’, reflections on an operation, clinical diagnosis or event first encountered as a trainee, lessons learned and how it subsequently informed / helped / hindered / defined / triggered clinical practice later and a future career.”

Four eminent and internationally renowned speakers, the very best of Scottish ophthalmology, will deliver special Guest Lectures on this theme: Professor Gordon Dutton, Professor Carrie MacEwen, Professor Brian Fleck and Professor John Forrester. E-posters are invited, as well as short video submissions in line with the theme of the meeting, and the poster prize winner will present on the day. The eposter competition will be run in partnership with Eye News and industry sponsors who will provide prizes for the best posters, photography and video. Pick up the August/September issue of Eye News or look out on social media for more information about entering.

Bal Dhillon continues: “There will be open admission, no charge for those attending and the only thing we are not able to provide is refreshment, so please bring your own!”
