The UK & Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) will hold their Cornea & Cataract Day on Monday 12 April 2027 at We The Curious, Bristol. The provisional programme offers a full day of clinical debate and practical learning, from 8.00am to 5.15pm.

After a welcome from Bita Manzouri, the morning opens with a cataract session on innovation, AI and the next era of surgery. Mayank Nanavaty surveys the 2027 lens landscape, Colm McAlinden considers premium IOLs in non-ideal eyes, and Barry Quill asks whether monofocal IOLs are the “flip phone” of cataract surgery. Frank Kerkhoff addresses the 6/6 but unhappy patient, and Magdalena Edington looks at high-volume services.

The second morning session turns to refractive surgery and its compromises. Brendan Cummings asks whether ICL indications are expanding or being overused, while Evgenia Anikina examines retinal risk in refractive lens exchange. Emil Kurniawan explores the return of PRK, and Ankur Mehta closes with patient selection in an era of high expectations.

After lunch, the corneal session, “Engineering Clarity”, covers the ocular surface before intraocular surgery (Conor Murphy), phaco-DMEK optimisation (Geraint Williams), graft survival (Cheryl MacGregor), robotics and AI in keratoplasty (Sheraz Daya), and cross-linking beyond keratoconus (Bushra Thajudeen).

The day ends with 'Short, Sweet and Succinct'. Rapid-fire talks include Larry Benjamin on manual capsulorhexis and Mohsen Malik on robotic cataract surgery. A medicolegal forum follows, opened by Amar Alwitry on cannula detachment and continuing with three further cases and their lessons. Gameshows and a closing round-up from Bita Manzouri complete the programme.

The unique selling point of UKISCRS is that it is large enough to attract a crowd, but small enough to maintain a community so that you won’t get lost. Dedicated time in the trade exhibition enables their industry partners to showcase their latest and greatest technologies and keep delegates aware of new developments and opportunities to improve patient care. With only one educational stream throughout the programme, you always get to be in the room where it happens. You do not want to miss this event!
