The United Kingdom and Éire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS) Conference returns on 10–11 November 2026 with a programme that celebrates the progress, creativity and collaboration that define modern glaucoma practice. This year’s meeting, ‘A celebration of modern glaucoma practice: the art, the science and the “edutainment”’, will be held at the Royal Northern College of Music, one of Manchester’s most distinctive and inspiring venues.
Hosted by Leon Au, the conference programme has been designed to reflect both the realities of contemporary clinical practice and the energy of a specialty that continues to evolve at pace. Drawing thoughtful inspiration from Manchester’s cultural and social history, sessions reference themes from Coronation Street and Oasis to Pride and Cottonopolis, offering an engaging framework for two days of rich, clinically relevant learning.
As Leon Au puts it: “Glaucoma care is constantly moving forward, and so is the way we learn from each other. This meeting is about bringing people together, sharing experience, and keeping our curiosity and enthusiasm at the centre of what we do.”
Many of the features that delegates value most remain firmly at the heart of the UKEGS conference. Regional case discussions, lively debate, abstracts and surgical videos all return, supporting practical learning and open exchange across the glaucoma community. Nishani Amerasinghe will once again chair the popular ELEVATE early morning session on day two, encouraging and supporting those presenting at a professional conference for the first time. Developing future consultants, specialists and academics continues to be a core part of the Society’s ethos.
Alongside this, the 2026 programme introduces new content. The inaugural Scholar Lecture will be delivered by Professor Keith Barton, while keynote speaker Dr Sanjay Asrani brings insight into the use of emerging technologies in glaucoma detection. Glaucoma UK CEO Joanne Creighton will also join the conference to share initial insights from the ‘Glaucoma UK National Patient Voices Survey’, due to be published later this year, ensuring patient experience remains central to professional discussion.
The first day closes with an evening programme designed to extend conversations beyond the lecture theatre, offering a relaxed and welcoming space for connection, reflection and exchange before a full second day.
Day two maintains momentum, with highlights including the Lowry-inspired sessions exploring the art of glaucoma surgery with Jonathan Yu, Siene Ng, Imran Masood, Gerard Reid and Shamira Perera, and the Peterloo Massacre session examining high‑pressure clinical scenarios with Winnie Nolan, Gok Ratnarajan and Sanjay Asrani. Across both days, delegates can also expect a vibrant exhibition, poster presentations and plenty of opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and make new professional connections.
The UKEGS Conference 2026 promises two stimulating days of learning, discussion and shared purpose, bringing together the glaucoma community in a setting designed to inspire. Early booking is recommended.
