Join us for an innovative, first-of-its-kind simulation course at the College focusing on human factors and their role in managing cataract surgery complications. This interactive one-day program will combine evidence-based teaching with hands-on simulation scenarios to help surgeons strengthen both their technical and non-technical skills when faced with intraoperative challenges.
Through practical scenarios, structured debriefing, and faculty-led discussions, you will explore how communication, teamwork, situational awareness, and decision-making directly impact complication management and patient safety.
Developed in response to new curriculum outcomes on human factors and safety, this course is designed for ophthalmology trainees and consultants who want to strengthen their skills, confidence, and resilience in managing complex cataract surgical complications. Through immersive, simulation-based scenarios, participants will not only develop practical strategies for handling high-stakes situations but also gain insights into the human factors that influence surgical performance.
The course is particularly suited to those who are passionate about fostering a culture of safety and learning within their own units or regions, equipping them to take these approaches back to their teams and embed simulation drills and human factors thinking into local training and governance structures.
