Overview
This intensive, interactive course is designed for ophthalmic practitioners and advanced clinical practice healthcare specialists. It provides essential knowledge of the peripheral fundus and vitreoretinal disease, combining core basic sciences with practical clinical applications. The course offers a structured approach to recognising and managing vitreoretinal emergencies and common pathology, equipping attendees with the skills needed for high-quality patient care.
Course aims
To provide a strong foundation in the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral fundus and vitreous.
To enhance the ability to recognise common physiological variations and their clinical significance in VR.
To improve confidence in assessing and managing vitreoretinal emergencies and common pathologies.
To reinforce best practices in medical-legal record keeping for acute ophthalmic care.
To improve examination techniques relevant to VR presentations (in-person attendance only, through practical session).
Learning outcomes
Describe the anatomical and physiological features of the peripheral fundus.
Identify common physiological variations and determine appropriate management strategies for vitreoretinal conditions.
Recognise and manage vitreoretinal emergencies and commonly encountered pathology.
Apply best practices in documentation and medical-legal record keeping in an acute ophthalmic setting in the context of VR.
Examine the peripheral retina with a fundus lens on model eyes (in-person attendance only, through practical session).
Course structure
The course features a full day of lectures delivered by leading speakers including Ms Louisa Wickham, Consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon and Mr Paul Sullivan, Consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
You will have the option to attend in-person at our training centre in Ebenezer Street, London N1 or online. For in-person attendees the day will conclude with a practical session covering indirect examination techniques and fundus lens exam.
