We’re excited to announce that the fourth annual National Student Ophthalmology Conference (NSOC) will take place on Saturday 10th May 2025, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM — and for the first time ever, it will be held in person at the beautiful Old Library, Queen Mary University of London, with a hybrid option for virtual attendees across the UK and beyond.
Organised by a passionate team of medical students representing over 13 universities nationwide, this year’s conference promises a truly immersive and memorable experience for all attendees. With a focus on interactivity and engagement, NSOC 2025 aims to inspire and equip the next generation of ophthalmologists through a dynamic mix of workshops, talks, competitions, and networking opportunities.
The day will feature four interactive workshops, tailored to support students at all stages of their medical journey:
- Research skills – Learn how to initiate your own research projects and write systematic reviews.
- ST1 portfolio building – Get exclusive tips on how to build a standout portfolio for your ophthalmology training applications.
- Debate session – Delve into current hot topics in ophthalmology, sharpen your public speaking, and compete for exciting prizes.
- Suturing workshop – Gain valuable hands-on experience in suturing under expert guidance.
Themed around the 'Evolution of Ophthalmology', the event will also showcase a series of talks from leading ophthalmologists, offering insights into how the field is adapting to technological advancements and the future of patient care.
In addition, attendees can look forward to poster and oral presentations from peers across the UK, alongside the results of our Creative Eye Competition, where students submit original artwork or images capturing the beauty and complexity of the human eye.
With 100 in-person delegates and 200 expected online, the conference will serve as a hub for passionate students to connect, collaborate, and deepen their interest in ophthalmology as a career. Lunch will be provided, and there will be multiple opportunities throughout the day for networking with speakers, clinicians, and fellow students.
NSOC 2025 is not just a conference — it’s a celebration of student initiative, creative thinking, and the exciting future of Ophthalmology. Whether attending in person or online, this is a must-attend event for anyone curious about the eye and eager to be part of a thriving student-led community.
